Job Summary 

The role of the Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA) involves collaborating with a team to create a secure, caring, and supportive environment while delivering developmentally appropriate programs for children aged 6 months to 5 years. Working alongside the teacher or activity group leader, the ECEA will execute the program's objectives and ensure that each child's individual needs are addressed. 

Additionally, the Assistant will contribute to enhancing services by actively participating in the review and achievement of goals outlined in the Centre's quality improvement plan. Job Description and Duties:

  • Assist early childhood educators in implementing programs aimed at fostering the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social growth of children.
  • Encourage child to participate in activities by telling stories, teaching songs and preparing crafts.
  • Document observations/written records on children's behaviors and development for review by supervisors.
  • Participate in staff meetings to discuss children's progress and address any challenges.
  • Prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for mealtimes and rest periods.
  • Guide and aid children in developing proper eating, dressing and toilet habits.
  • Maintain daycare equipment and assist in housekeeping and cooking duties.
  • Attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children.

 

Terms of Employment: Permanent; Full Time; Long Term 

Hours of Work: 36 hours per week 

Wages: $22.50 per hour

Overtime: One and one-half times the regular wage rate as per provincial regulations

Benefits Package: 

  • Insurance from Workplace Safety and Insurance Board covered by employer
  • Vacation pay as per provincial regulations will be paid each payday on a semi-monthly basis

Education, Experience and Language Requirements:

  • Completion of secondary school is required.
  • Some experience in childcare is required.
  • Completion of an early childhood education assistant related certificate program
  • Communication skills in English

  • Be available to open or close the Centre
  • Criminal record check and knowledge of First Aid is preferred
  • Must be available for all hours of operation including overtime and weekend work as required
