Job Title: Chef (Full-time position, 3 vacancies)
At least 1-year work experience in:
- Kitchen of Chinese restaurant or Chinese food catering services; and
- Making Chinese vegetarian cuisine and Chengdu/Sichuan cuisine including hot and cold appetizers, Chinese buns, pastries and desserts
Work Locations:
- Primary location – Markham (at our restaurant - 3989 Highway 7 East, Markham, Ontario, L3R 5M6) we serve Sichuan style hotpot with cold/hot appetizers and desserts of northern & southern Chinese style
- Secondary location – Niagara Falls (at Ten Thousand Buddhas Sarira Stupa – a temple at 4303 River Road, Niagara Falls, Ontario, L2E 3E8) we provide catering services for vegetarian cuisine
Duties:
- Oversee and lead the kitchen staff, providing direction and supervision for junior chefs, cooks, and kitchen staff;
- Contribute to menu planning, actively participating in the preparation, presentation, and cooking of Chinese dishes for restaurant patrons and vegetarian dishes for temple;
- Engage with clients to discuss and plan menus for our catering services and our restaurant banquets, ensuring accommodation of special dietary requests or preferences, especially in the realm of vegetarian cuisine for catering services for temple;
- In addition to focusing on the distinctive flavours of Chengdu/Sichuan hotpot, also provide appetizer dishes and pastries;
- Estimate the restaurant and catering operations' food, labour, and kitchen supplies costs;
- Train kitchen staff in the specialized cooking skills required for Chinese cuisine, demonstrating techniques and proper equipment usage;
- Expand the existing Chengdu/Sichuan-styled hotpot offerings at the restaurant by creating new and higher quality hot/cold plates, desserts and pastries, also developing Buddhist vegetarian meals tailored for temple goers.
Terms: 2-years (expect April 2024 – April 2026)
Remuneration: $28.39 per hour / 35 hours per week
