KITCHEN HELPER

 

COMPANY SUMMARY: 

Davie Dosa Company brings an exotic culinary experience of traditional Southern Indian cuisine and delicious cocktails to a vibrant the neighborhood of the West End in Vancouver. We serve traditional, innovative and authentic South Indian Cuisine including our specialty dosas, as well as curries and vegetarian specialties.

We bring our craft to your plate with unearthing traditional recipes and mastered cooking skills. We created a menu for everyone with traditional and creative recipes that pair wonderfully with our selection of wines and fine spirits. One of our main goals is to present delicious South Indian dishes with a combination of amazing flavours, tenderness and aroma to satisfy the taste of our customers, while they sit and relax enjoying the food, the atmosphere and our exceptional service. We need two Kitchen Helpers to assist our kitchen staff at our busy restaurant.

JOB SUMMARY: 

We are looking to add to our team one energetic and dedicated Kitchen Helper to assist in the preparation of authentic Indian dishes and maintain the kitchen’s high standards of hygiene and efficiency. Our ideal candidate is a team player with strong communication skills to thrive in the fast-paced dynamic energy of our kitchen.

JOB DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES: 

  • Assist with the preparation of ingredients used such as washing, peeling, chopping, and grinding vegetables, herbs and spices
  • Assist with the preparation of sauces, curries, and gravies, including measuring and mixing ingredients
  • Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen environment by washing dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment, and ensuring all surfaces are sanitized according to hygiene standards
  • Support the kitchen team by helping with cooking tasks specific to Indian cuisine, like preparing spice blends, kneading dough for naan, and marinating meats
  • Help plate dishes according to restaurant presentation standards
  • Follow specific Indian cooking techniques and recipes as directed by chefs to maintain authenticity and quality of Indian dishes
  • Dispose of trash and ensure garbage cans are regularly cleaned
  • Keep track of inventory for ingredients, spices, and pantry items, and report when stocks need replenishing
  • Provide assistance to dishwashers by washing dishes, cleaning and polishing silverware, and scrubbing pots, pans, and cooking utensils
  • Strictly adhere to all food safety and hygiene regulations and practices to maintain food quality and safety
  • Other related duties as needed.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Permanent, Full-time, Long-term


HOURS OF WORK:
40 hours per week

 

WAGES:  $17.40 per hour

 

OVERTIME: One and one-half times the regular wage rate as per provincial regulations

 

BENEFITS PACKAGE: 

  • Insurance from Workplace Safety and Insurance Board covered by employer
  • Vacation pay as per provincial regulations will be paid each payday on a semi-monthly basis

 

LOCATION OF WORK: 1235 Davie St, Vancouver, BC V6E 1N4, Canada


ANTICIPATED START DATE OF EMPLOYMENT: As soon as possible

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completion of Secondary school is an asset
  • Ability to communicate in English
  • On the job training will be provided
