Our initial focus was on furniture, and we quickly became a well-known storefront on the main drag. Over the years, we have grown to become RCB Upholstery and Supplies, expanding our services to include all aspects of design. Our expertise extends beyond marine and commercial seating, as we excel in all custom projects brought to us. We are currently seeking a qualified Upholsterer to join our team and assist with fabricating and installing upholstery.

Job Summary: The Upholsterer will be responsible for discussing upholstery details such as fabric, style, and color with clients, providing cost estimates, measuring and cutting upholstery materials, replacing worn-out parts with hand and power tools, installing padding and covering materials onto furniture frames, and adding ornamental details as required. Additionally, the Upholsterer will be fabricating, cutting, and installing upholstery in a wide variety of areas such as Marine, Commercial, Automotive and Residential.

Job Description and Duties:

  • Conduct consultations with clients and discuss upholstery fabric, color, and style
  • Provide estimates for upholstering furniture and other items as requested
  • Measure and cut upholstery materials according to specifications and requirements
  • Utilize hand and power tools to replace worn-out webbing, springs, and other furniture parts.
  • Seam cushions and join sections of covering materials either by operating sewing machines or sewing upholstery materials by hand.
  • Install padding and underlays and attach covering materials to furniture frames.
  • Decorate upholstered items by attaching trim, braids, buttons or other embellishments on them.
  • Layout, cut, fabricate, install and repair upholstery
  • Exhibit familiarity with Custom Marine and/or Automotive Upholstery

 

Terms of Employment: Permanent Full Time, Long Term

 

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week 

 

Wages: $25.00 per hour

 

Overtime: One and one-half times the regular wage rate as per provincial regulations 

 

Anticipated Start Date of Employment:  As soon as possible

 

Education, Experience and Language Requirements:

  • Completion of Secondary School required
  • Specialized training or education in upholstery is an asset
  • 3 years of related experience
  • Able to speak, read and write in English

  • Attention to detail
  • Good hand-eye coordination
  • Physical dexterity
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Good communication skills to discuss with clients and co-workers
  • Creative problem-solving skills for custom projects
  • Familiarity with different fabrics, sewing techniques and tools
  • Knowledge of safety practices when working with power tools and equipment
  • Basic math skills for measuring and calculating material requirements
